A trifocal add-on lens is placed in front of your existing lens and can reduce your need for glasses at near, intermediate and distance. The lens is placed in front of your existing artificial lens, which is kept. It can be surgically removed or exchanged, but that requires a further operation with its own risks, and does not guarantee that your vision will be exactly as it was before treatment.
Trifocal lenses can cause rings around lights, glare and reduced contrast. These symptoms may lessen over time, but they can also persist. Surgical risks include infection, inflammation, raised pressure and loss of vision. Further treatment may be required.

At the pre-examination we measure the eye and go through your eye health. If other conditions are affecting your vision, a trifocal lens is not always the right choice, and we will say so.
Trifocal lenses split the light between three distances, and that shows at night: rings around light sources and glare, particularly when driving. It is common during the first few months.
For most people the symptoms fade as the brain adapts to the new optics. We follow you at the return visits and go through how you are finding your vision in the dark.
Yes. The add-on lens can be surgically removed or exchanged if needed, while your existing lens is kept. That requires a further operation with its own risks. There is no upper limit. It can be done months or years after your first lens was implanted, as long as the eye is stable and otherwise healthy.

During the examination, we measure your vision problem and map your eye. After analyzing the results, we will go through them with you. If treatment is possible, we will schedule an appointment for it.
We treat your vision impairment. Based on your individual condition, the treatment that is most suitable for you will be performed.
We will follow up with you regularly; after one week, three months, and one year, to monitor the treatment you received with us.
Before treatment you have a detailed examination. We measure the refractive error and assess the health of the eye. The ophthalmologist decides whether a trifocal add-on lens is suitable and goes through the alternatives, the expected result and the risks with you.
The lens is chosen from your measurements and your visual needs, and is placed in front of your existing artificial lens. The add-on lens can be surgically removed or exchanged if needed, but that requires a further operation with its own risks.

Recovery varies. Vision may improve early, but settling and adapting to the new optics takes longer. Slight grittiness can occur during the first few days.
Follow the prescription for your eye drops and the individual instructions you are given on hygiene, physical activity and return visits. Avoid rubbing the eye. When you return to driving, work and exercise depends on your vision and your healing.
Contact the clinic immediately if you have increasing pain, marked redness or worsening vision. New flashes of light, many new floaters or a shadow in your field of vision need prompt assessment. If you cannot reach the clinic, seek emergency eye care.
At the return visits we check healing, the position of the lens and the visual result.
